September 3, 2018 – (Potomac, MD) Harvey S. Jacobs, a Potomac, MD resident for the past thirty years, is running for the Maryland House of Delegates from Legislative District 15 as “The Common Sense Candidate.” It is the first time he is seeking public office. “I plan to bring some common sense to the legislature in Annapolis” said Jacobs.
Mr. Jacobs is the principal of Jacobs & Associates, Attorneys at Law, LLC in Rockville, MD. His practice is focused on Real Estate and Small Business transactions and Internet Law matters. Harvey was born in Bradley Beach, New Jersey. When his father retired from the civil service he relocated the family to Delray Beach, Florida, where Harvey graduated from from Atlantic High School. Harvey earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the George Washington University. After college, Mr. Jacobs received his JD Degree from Brooklyn Law School and has been in private law practice ever since. In 1988 he founded the Washington, DC law firm of Joyce & Jacobs with his former GWU roommate and served as its managing partner. Joyce & Jacobs, a boutique telecommunications, corporate and Internet law firm grew to a dozen attorneys before dissolving in 2001,when Mr. Jacobs moved his practice to Montgomery County, MD.
Mr. Jacobs is also known as “The House Lawyer” the name of the real estate column he writes for the Washington Post real estate section. Recently, he has added the title “Professor” to his resume as he has taught a class on Intellectual Property Law at Montgomery College. Mr. Jacobs is also a frequent lecturer to the Maryland Small Business and Technology Development Center, in College Park Maryland. His lectures cover the legal and business aspects facing budding entrepreneurs. Five years ago he founded The Real Estate Coffee House™, a business networking group for real estate professionals. The “Coffee House” has served over 10,000 attendees and has expanded to three locations in suburban Maryland.
Mr. Jacobs is a member of the New York, Maryland and Washington, DC Bars and the Bar Association of Montgomery County. Harvey has held leadership positions and is active in many community and charitable organizations including: Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Washington, DC; Past President of the Wootton High School PTA; member of the Sobeloff and Heritage Societies; member of the Amity Club, the Lakewood and Gleneagles Country Clubs; member of the Rockville and Bethesda Chevy Chase Chambers of Commerce. Past member of B’nai Israel, Har Shalom and Beth Ami Congregations. He resides in Potomac, MD with his wife and their two dogs and two cats.
