Notice from PSI regarding Pre-Licensing education

Maryland Land Title Association is an approved Pre-Licensing provider for the state of Maryland. On July 16, 2018, we received the following information from PSI.

TO: All Maryland Approved Pre-Licensing Course Providers

RE: Change in eligibility period to take the exam and validity of examination results

The purpose of this notice is to inform all pre-licensing course providers of changes related to the candidates’ eligibility period and the length of time the examination results are valid.

Eligibility period from pre-licensing course completion to successfully passing both portions of the Maryland licensing examination.

  • Currently, candidates have a one (1) year eligibility period from completing the prelicensing course to taking and successfully passing both portions of the Maryland licensing examination.
  • Effective October 1, 2018, a candidate’s eligibility period will be six (6) months. Candidates who complete the pre-licensing course and become eligible to take the exam will have 6 months to successfully take and pass both portions of the appropriate Maryland licensing examination.
  • Candidates who do not pass the examinations within the six (6) month period will have to retake the pre-licensing course and apply to retake both portions of the examination.

Validity of examination results.

  • Currently, examination scores are valid for two (2) years from successfully completing the examination.
  • Effective October 1, 2018, the examination results will be valid for six (6) months. Candidates who have successfully taken and passed both portions of the Maryland licensing examination will have 6 months to apply for the appropriate Maryland license.
  • Candidates who do not apply for the appropriate license within the six (6) month period will have to retake the pre-licensing course and apply to retake both portions of the examination.

Eligibility period of the pre-licensing education waiver to successfully passing both portions of the Maryland licensing examination.

  • Currently, candidates who were granted a pre-licensing education waiver have one (1) year to take and successfully pass both portions of the Maryland licensing examination.
  • Effective October 1, 2018, the pre-licensing education waiver will be valid for six (6) months. Candidates who are granted a pre-licensing education waiver will have 6 months to successfully take and pass both portions of the appropriate Maryland licensing examination.
  • Candidates who do not take nor successfully pass both portions of the examinations within the six (6) month period will have to take a pre-licensing course and apply to retake both portions of the examination.
